French
Curriculum intent
In today’s world, speaking one foreign language is not enough. Students who speak several languages will increase their chances of finding a job, whether at home or abroad. Learning another language enriches the mind and opens up new horizons, both personal and professional. We believe that engagement and encouragement are key to motivating pupils to achieve. Language classes are lively and students are encouraged to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The students are assessed on a regular basis, with particular emphasis placed on vocabulary and grammar learning.

Curriculum intent
“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart”
… Nelson Mandela.
Proficiency in a foreign language is essential in today’s ever-expanding community, not only for gaining skills in the art of communication with a wider group of people, but also for procuring a deeper knowledge and insight into a country’s culture.
Knowledge of foreign languages is a significant asset in the job market. It encourages mental agility as well as greatly enhancing travel and cultural understanding. At ASHS students study a range of different topics in German alongside grammar in the four skills areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Furthermore within this study of German we aim to underpin the ASHS core values and allow our students to understand and respect the language and culture of one of our fellow European countries.
